Case study published on 7 March 2025 by Brice Chellet, Cartographit product director, based on discussions with Nicolas Roux, IT Director of the IT Link Group. Written in French and translated by us.
The context: supporting the transformation of the information system
IT Link is a French digital services company specialising in connected systems. Its consulting and engineering activities cover environments ranging from the sensor to the business application.
In the context described by Nicolas Roux, the group is changing its information system: in-house hosting is gradually giving way to cloud services, notably with OVH, Google Cloud and Azure. Identity management is also moving to the cloud, combined with a tool for remote monitoring and management of workstations, or RMM.
These transformations make knowledge of the infrastructure more complex to organise. For the IT department, the challenge is to keep a clear representation of the information system as it changes.
The starting point: scattered information
Before Cartographit, documentation relied on spreadsheets and text documents. The testimonial describes an inventory that had become obsolete and information that was hard to keep up to date.
This scattering also created a difficulty for the ISO 27001 process: having structured, maintained documentation to meet the needs of audits. The objective was therefore to better organise existing knowledge while making it easier to update.
The approach: bring it together and make it readable
With Cartographit, IT Link centralises information in a common reference base. The map becomes a medium for organising the documentation of the information system and sharing a consistent view of it.
The visual representation of business processes and information flows also helps make the information system more understandable for non-technical stakeholders. The repository thus meets two complementary needs: finding information and understanding how the elements fit together.
Why IT Link chose Cartographit
Nicolas Roux highlights three criteria in the choice of the solution:
Easy to get started with
Ergonomics and ease of use are among the points appreciated.
A repository that is simple to feed
The ability to enrich and update the information is one of the selection criteria.
A framework aligned with the ANSSI recommendations
This approach to mapping matters in the group’s process.
The benefits for documentation and discussions
The case study highlights centralised information, a better-organised view of the information system for internal and external audits, and a representation that is more accessible to the various stakeholders.
In the ISO 27001 process, Cartographit serves as documentary support. The map makes it easier to present the information system; it is part of a broader compliance effort.
This case illustrates a challenge shared by IT departments whose environments are changing: turning knowledge of the information system into a repository that can be maintained and shared. Ease of feeding it and the readability of the representations then matter as much as building the initial inventory.
